In today's game design analysis/theory video we are going to take a look at the effect of the second playthrough. In games like the legend of zelda majora's mask, kingdom hearts, the legend of zelda ocarina of time, fire emblem echoes, fire emblem heroes, fire emblem warriors, nier automata, the legend of zelda twilight princess and way more. A lot of these games have lore and story that you wouldn't understand at first. Like the kafei and anju quest line, the all night mask, cremia and romani at romani ranch right before the moon crashes and skull kid destroys everything. Or the dying characters in fire emblem, the dark story of mickey mouse, goofy, donald duck and sora in kingdom hearts. And today we are going to explain the effects of planning it as a young kid and as a adult.

Watch someone else make a game based on YOUR ideas. Allen will be developing a game and talking through his process as you throw ideas at him. This could either be really great or really awful. Either way, you'll learn something.



Allen will be using Playmaker and Unity 3D to "program" the game. Playmaker is a drag and drop game logic editor for non-programmers easy enough for anyone to pick up. O Brasil é o quarto consumidor mundial de games, na contramão da crise, os empregos no setor cresceram 13 vezes mais que o mercado de trabalho em geral. O cenário é de mais vagas do que candidatos. Os salários começam em R$ 3 mil, podendo chegar a R$ 8 mil, como mostrou essa reportagem do RJTV em 2015. Trabalhar com games é a profissão do momento. Unindo talento, criatividade e tecnologia, a indústria de games fatura mais do que cinema e música juntos. “Este é um mercado que está empregando muita gente, está crescendo, mas sofre com mão de obra qualificada. Hoje, na indústria criativa, temos um salário médio que é três vezes maior do que o mercado normal. Por quê? Porque falta gente qualificada para entrar nessa indústria”, afirma Marcelo Hodger, ex-diretor-geral da Escola de Games Red Zero. Game designer seria traduzido para arquiteto dos jogos. É a pessoa que guia o programador, guia o artista, ele é um engenheiro, cria o jogo no papel.

Welcome to the first episode of Game Design Breakdown! In this episode I wanted to cover something that is very basic, yet complex at the same time. Why do we like to play games?
This is a common question that is not only good for video game developers to identify, but also for people that don't understand why people "waste their time" with video games. My goal in creating this video is to help non-gamers understand that video games aren't harmful, but actually something that is a benefit in moderation.
The same question can be applied for anyone that would be thinking about developing a game, or is knee-deep in the game development world. The answer to this question could very well help you identify the direction you would like to take with a game of your own.

How to Design Addictive Games

A great game seduces its player into flow state. Since we know a lot about what flow state is and what it requires, you might imagine that game's design to be a lot of work, but not mysterious. Yet 99% of all games fail. The vast majority of game designers have never designed an addictive game. In HCI research, games are analyzed based on flow state properties but that's descriptive, not prescriptive. Designing such games remains mystical. Like other performing arts, game design needs accident, luck, inspiration, perspiration, and knowledge. I would like to justify my being invited to talk so on top of the skeleton of flow, I will add some meat that you would not likely hear from anyone else. I will talk about what I learned playtesting my own work and what I was taught by great game designers, in creating games that were indeed addictive. As such, this will be a very idiosyncratic and personal introduction to the art of designing irresistible engagement.
